Bearmon is a Digimon introduced in 2002 in the PS1 game Digimon World 3, where he served as one of the three new mascot characters, one of Atsushi / Junior’s possible starter Digimon, and the game’s main poster boy. In the early days, he was known as Kumamon in the West—but this caused confusion, as Kumamon was also chosen as the Western name for Chackmon from Digimon Frontier. To fix this, official products eventually reverted to Bearmon’s original Japanese name, while “Kumamon” remained exclusive to Chackmon in Western releases.
Bearmon is best known as the Child / Rookie form of Marsmon, a member of the Olympus XIII. His other main evolutions are Gryzmon and Grappu Leomon. However, in most later games he appeared in, his evolution line was left incomplete—most notably due to Marsmon being absent from those titles, with his line being filled by randomly chosen Digimon such as Were Garurumon (Black), Monzaemon, Pandamon, Babamon, Dino Tigermon, and Bancho Leomon.
His first anime appearance came in the Digimon Frontier movie "Revival of the Ancient Digimon!!", where he played a major role as a member of the Beast Digimon group, the younger brother of Gryzmon, and the best friend of Kotemon from the Human Digimon group. While his later anime appearances were minor, he stood out for being Daigo Nishijima’s partner in Digimon Adventure tri. This makes him the first goggle-boy partner in the anime who is not associated with the fire element in any way and the second that is not a reptile.
Bearmon is my personal favorite Digimon. Since no one had made a model of him, I decided to create one myself.
