Model description
The model I think is fairly self explanatory.
The Sandman: Book One (collecting the beginning of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series) was a highly collaborative comic, though Neil Gaiman was the writer and creative lead. Here’s who was involved in Sandman #1–8 (the original “Book One” run, later collected as Preludes & Nocturnes):
Neil Gaiman – Writer, creator of the story and central vision.
Sam Kieth – Original penciller (issues #1–5).
Mike Dringenberg – Inker on early issues, then took over pencils from Kieth starting issue #6.
Malcolm Jones III – Inker (primarily from issue #6 onward).
Todd Klein – Letterer (responsible for Sandman’s unique balloon fonts and lettering style).
Robbie Busch – Colorist on early issues.
Covers: Almost all iconic covers, including for Book One, were painted by Dave McKean.
And editorially:
Karen Berger – Editor (at DC/Vertigo, instrumental in bringing Gaiman to DC).
Art Young & Richard Bruning – Also had editorial and design input during the early run.
So the short version: Gaiman (writer), Kieth (first penciller), Dringenberg (later penciller), Jones (inker), Klein (lettering), Busch (colors), McKean (covers), and Berger (editor) were the main team on Book One.
