Hideki Arai is a Japanese manga artist born September 15, 1963, in Kanagawa Prefecture. A graduate of Meiji University, he won the 38th Shogakukan Manga Award in 1993 for Miyamoto kara Kimi e. Known for intense, psychologically complex narratives, his controversial masterpiece The World Is Mine was featured on Pulp magazine's "Manga Hell" list. Arai's diverse body of work includes Kiichi!!, Sugar, Itoshi no Irene, and Scatter: Wish You Were Here, exploring themes of violence, alienation, and human darkness with raw emotional power. His gritty, realistic art style and unflinching examination of society's underbelly have established him as a distinctive voice in seinen manga.
