Model description
Rogue in X-Men: Evolution (2000–2003) is a teenage mutant reimagined as a sullen, reclusive goth girl from Mississippi, voiced by Meghan Black. She first appears in the episode "Rogue Recruit" (Season 1, Episode 3), where her powers manifest accidentally, absorbing the life force and memories of a boy named Cody Robbins through touch, leaving him comatose. Adopted by Mystique (Raven Darkhölme) and raised partly under the care of Destiny (Irene Adler), Rogue is manipulated into joining the Brotherhood of Mutants after Mystique impersonates X-Men members to portray them as threats. Her ability to absorb powers, memories, and personalities via skin contact isolates her deeply, forcing her to wear gloves and covering clothing to avoid harm.
A pivotal development occurs in "Turn of the Rogue" (Season 1, Episode 7), where Rogue discovers Mystique's deception by absorbing her memories, leading her to defect to the X-Men. She struggles with trust issues, develops an unrequited crush on Cyclops (Scott Summers), and faces internal turmoil from retained personalities. In "Self Possessed" (Season 3, Episode 9), Rogue temporarily loses control, manifesting absorbed powers and traits uncontrollably, highlighting the psychological toll of her abilities.
Throughout the series, Rogue evolves from a cynical outsider to a loyal X-Men member, discovering her foster brother relationship with Nightcrawler and forming a romantic interest in Gambit by the finale. Her arc emphasizes themes of isolation, identity, and acceptance, culminating in greater control over her powers, including brief access to multiple absorbed abilities simultaneously, solidifying her as a key team member in the battle against threats like Apocalypse.
