Model description
Nebula is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, primarily as a space pirate, mercenary, and occasional antihero. Created by writer Roger Stern and artist John Buscema, she first appeared in The Avengers #257 (July 1985). Initially introduced as a bald, blue-skinned Luphomoid claiming to be the granddaughter of Thanos, Nebula led a crew of pirates in an assault on Thanos's abandoned flagship, Sanctuary II, seeking vengeance for his alleged abandonment of her during an attack that devastated her childhood. Her early conflicts involved clashes with the Avengers and cosmic entities, establishing her as a ruthless opportunist driven by ambition and resentment toward the Mad Titan.
Possessing enhanced strength, agility, durability, and regenerative abilities augmented by extensive cybernetic reconstructions—often self-inflicted or resulting from severe injuries—Nebula is a master tactician, hand-to-hand combatant, and weapons expert, frequently employing wrist blasters and energy manipulation. A pivotal development occurred during the 1991 miniseries The Infinity Gauntlet, where she infiltrated Thanos's forces, seized the Infinity Gauntlet from him amid his moment of hubris, and briefly wielded near-omnipotent power before her inexperience allowed Nebula to be outmaneuvered and reduced to a charred, near-death state by Thanos. Revived through advanced technology, she returned in subsequent stories as a grotesque cyborg, pursuing further schemes against cosmic threats and heroes.
Over time, Nebula's backstory was retconned to portray her as one of Thanos's adopted daughters, raised in a brutal environment where she was repeatedly pitted against her adoptive sister Gamora, undergoing painful cybernetic replacements for each defeat, fueling deep-seated jealousy and trauma. This evolution shifted her from a straightforward villain to a more complex antihero, with notable appearances in events like Annihilation (2006), alliances with figures such as Nova, and reluctant cooperation with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Her 2020 self-titled miniseries further explored her independence and probabilistic abilities, solidifying her as a resilient survivor navigating familial legacy and redemption amid ongoing cosmic conflicts.
