A Zulu Maiden is an unmarried girl in the Zulu community who wears traditional clothing and participates in the Royal Reed Dance.
Clothing
- Skirt: A short skirt made of grass or beaded cotton strings 
- Beadwork: Long strips of twisted beads called “izincu” around their ankles, elbows, and waists 
- Necklaces: Colorful necklaces 
- Headbands: Beaded headbands 
- Hair: Short hair 
Role in the Royal Reed Dance Collect reeds from the riverbed, Present the reeds to the king, Sing and dance, Ululate, and Receive a name from the king.
The Royal Reed Dance is a celebration of Zulu heritage and customs. The reeds symbolize the power of nature and the mythical connection to the origin of the Zulu people.
