Model description
The model I think is fairly self explanatory.
I haven't checked if anyone's done this yet, and I'm not going to and live in a self inflicted fantasy that I do the most bizarre and niche gooner stuff haha! I 'might' do the Nvidea 'gpu babes' later, but the only one I really remembered was ATI's 'Ruby' because in my opinion she was the hottest, but I did find it interesting of the '3 gpu babes', two of them had short pixie cuts, and one of them even -was- a pixie with Nvidia's 'dawn' character. It's kind of funny how a 'decade later' after these short haired girls for the tech demos that 'hair' became actually a massive marketing thing, with I think The Witcher 2? or was it 3, having that new hair tech, so I guess it was actually a technical limitation of the time and they had short hair because they couldn't make long flow naturally. Which I think is an interesting way to look back at old videogame and computer graphics as they developed and evolved over time and the limitations that you can sort of pick up in those 'era's.
Which is also kind of funny to think about because I was just talking about 'big hair of the past' in anime to today to a cool dude on the teenage mutant ninja turtles model from yesterday about this sort of 'eras' of art, and he sort of I suppose inspired another model out of me again with this one haha, which is fun. It's really fun to just have a conversation with some new person that sort of triggers a 'jimmy neutron brain blast' haha!
We did NOT expect that level of ░B░O░O░B░A░!░ within the LoRA of "[ATI] 'Ruby' Radeon GPU Promotional Character Illustrious"!
The ATI "Ruby" character, introduced in the early 2000s as a tech demo mascot for ATI Technologies (prior to AMD's acquisition), was designed primarily as a promotional figure to showcase ATI's graphics hardware capabilities, especially shaders and real-time rendering.
Key Involvements:
ATI Technologies:
Marketing & Developer Relations Team conceptualized Ruby as a brand icon similar to NVIDIA's Dawn or Nalu.
Ruby was used in real-time demo showcases, including "The DoubleCross", "Dangerous Curves", and others to highlight rendering features like HDR, dynamic lighting, and hair physics.
Realtime Worlds / DNA Productions / RhinoFX / Plastic Wax (varied collaborators depending on the demo):
These animation and visual effects studios were often contracted to develop the demos and render Ruby.
For example:
"The Assassin" (2005) and other Ruby demos were produced in collaboration with Plastic Wax, an Australian CG animation studio.
RhinoFX, a VFX studio, worked on some of the earlier tech demos for ATI around 2004.
Design Inspiration:
Ruby was visually inspired by strong female action heroes of the early 2000s (e.g., Lara Croft, Aeon Flux).
She was portrayed as a red-haired, leather-outfitted cyber-spy/agent — symbolic of ATI’s "red" brand identity.
Character Design:
- While individual concept artists aren’t always credited publicly, the look and animations were a joint effort between ATI’s internal creative direction and the contracted studios’ art teams.
After AMD Acquisition:
- The Ruby character continued briefly post-ATI as AMD inherited the branding, but she was eventually phased out around 2010.
If you're looking for a specific artist or designer (such as a concept artist, modeler, or animator), those credits were typically not publicly released in detail for promotional demos. However, some artists from Plastic Wax and RhinoFX have listed their work on portfolios and LinkedIn pages related to the Ruby tech demos.
Works well at a strength of 1.
