Isao Shinomiya — 《Kaiju No. 8》

A captain of the Defense Force and Chikoro's father, he harbors a deep hatred for monsters after his wife was killed by a monster. His weapon is a pair of robotic arms, a monster identification weapon crafted from Monster No. 2. Once hailed as the strongest man in the Defense Force's history, he is the only member of the force capable of controlling Monster No. 2's weapon. He ordered Unit 3 to transfer Monster No. 8 and imprison it at the headquarters' Ariake Rinkai Base. He originally planned to execute Monster No. 8, but after considering the report submitted by Unit 3 and at his daughter's request, he instead conducted a combat test on No. 8, intending to test Kafka's ability to control it. While still convinced that Kafka is a monster, he believes it would be better to use No. 8 itself in combat rather than turning it into a monster identification weapon and risking no one being able to use it. He fought hard against Monster No. 9 in the battle of Shinagawa, but was ultimately defeated due to his age and decline in physical ability compared to his heyday. In addition, No. 9's ability increased more than expected, and his body and the weapon made of Monster No. 2 were taken away by No. 9 and he died.
