Marsmon is a Digimon introduced in 2002 in the PlayStation game Digimon World 3. In that title, he served as the Ultimate / Mega form of Bearmon, one of the three new mascot characters, a possible starter for Atsushi / Junior, and the game’s main poster Digimon.

Originally conceived under the name Berserkmon, the design was later renamed Marsmon, drawing inspiration from Mars, the Roman god of war, equivalent to the Greek god Ares. This change made Marsmon the very first member of what would later become the Olympos XII, just as Omegamon / Omnimon was created before the concept of the Royal Knights fully took shape.

Despite this important role in Digimon World 3 and his status as the earliest Olympos XII Digimon, Marsmon’s history in the franchise has been rather unfortunate. He never returned in any major console titles after World 3, which is especially unusual since Bearmon himself continued to appear. Without Marsmon, Bearmon’s evolution lines in later games were often inconsistent or filled with random and weid Digimon. Marsmon’s later appearances were largely limited to MMOs and mobile titles. Even then, MMOs initially chose Dino Tigermon as Bearmon’s final form, only reintroducing Marsmon later with awkward gameplay adjustments, such as having Dino Tigermon evolve into Marsmon.

The anime treatment was no better. Marsmon’s only appearance was in Digimon Xros Wars, where he was portrayed merely as a subordinate to Apollomon, despite Olympos XII lore stating they should be equals. His only real chance to shine came in the mobile game Digimon Heroes, the first title to focus on the Olympos XII. Now, over two decades after World 3, he is finally set to have a meaningful role once again in Digimon Story: Time Stranger, the second game centered around the Olympos XII.

Marsmon’s path through the franchise has been uneven, introduced with prominence, sidelined for years, and only now beginning to reclaim significance. For a Digimon tied so closely to Digimon World 3, one of the series’ most iconic PlayStation games, it feels like an unfair journey. As someone who counts Bearmon as my favorite Digimon, I can’t help but feel sympathy for him.

Because of this uneven trajectory, resources for Marsmon are scarce. Still, I managed to put together a working model for him. There are, however, two quirks:

  • First, his metal bracelets sometimes generate chain links, which can be avoided by including “chain” in the negative prompt.

  • Second, while the model understands that there’s a human face beneath the mask, if you don’t specify something like “smile,” “slight smile,” “open mouth,” or “closed mouth”, the output may omit the mouth entirely, leaving an odd patch of skin instead.

As long as these details are kept in mind, though, the model works quite well.
