[DC and Vertigo Comics (Neil Gaiman Et Al)] Sandman Book One Aka Preludes and Nocturnes Comic Style Illustrious

Details

Model description

The model I think is fairly self explanatory.

The Sandman: Book One (collecting the beginning of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series) was a highly collaborative comic, though Neil Gaiman was the writer and creative lead. Here’s who was involved in Sandman #1–8 (the original “Book One” run, later collected as Preludes & Nocturnes):

  • Neil Gaiman – Writer, creator of the story and central vision.

  • Sam Kieth – Original penciller (issues #1–5).

  • Mike Dringenberg – Inker on early issues, then took over pencils from Kieth starting issue #6.

  • Malcolm Jones III – Inker (primarily from issue #6 onward).

  • Todd Klein – Letterer (responsible for Sandman’s unique balloon fonts and lettering style).

  • Robbie Busch – Colorist on early issues.

  • Covers: Almost all iconic covers, including for Book One, were painted by Dave McKean.

And editorially:

  • Karen Berger – Editor (at DC/Vertigo, instrumental in bringing Gaiman to DC).

  • Art Young & Richard Bruning – Also had editorial and design input during the early run.

So the short version: Gaiman (writer), Kieth (first penciller), Dringenberg (later penciller), Jones (inker), Klein (lettering), Busch (colors), McKean (covers), and Berger (editor) were the main team on Book One.
