Model description
The model I think is fairly self explanatory.
The comic Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962) is the famous issue that introduced Spider-Man. Several key creators at Marvel Comics (then called Atlas/Timely) were involved in its creation:
Stan Lee – Writer & Co-creator
- Came up with the idea of Spider-Man as a teenage hero with everyday problems. He wrote the script and dialogue.
Steve Ditko – Artist & Co-creator
- Did the interior artwork (pencils and inks). He designed Spider-Man’s costume (the red-and-blue webbed suit and mask) and visual style.
Jack Kirby – Character designer (uncredited contribution)
- Originally drew early concept sketches for Spider-Man at Stan Lee’s request. His version was bulkier and more like his usual heroic style. Stan felt it didn’t fit the “teenage underdog” idea, so Steve Ditko redesigned him into the slimmer, awkward teen hero we know.
Artie Simek – Letterer
- Hand-lettered the issue’s dialogue, captions, and sound effects.
Stan Goldberg – Colorist
- Provided the coloring for the issue, including the iconic red-and-blue Spider-Man costume.
Martin Goodman – Publisher
- Owner of Marvel at the time, he gave Stan Lee permission to put Spider-Man in the final issue of Amazing Fantasy (since the title was about to be canceled, it was considered low-risk).
So the credited co-creators of Spider-Man are Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, with Jack Kirby’s brief but important involvement in the very first design attempt.
