Model description
Kara In-Ze, the Supergirl of the DC Animated Universe (often referred to as the Timm-Verse after producer Bruce Timm), debuted in the two-part episode "Little Girl Lost" of Superman: The Animated Series (airing May 2 and 9, 1998), voiced by Nicholle Tom. In this continuity, Kara originates from Argo, a sister planet to Krypton colonized by Kryptonians, making her the sole survivor after Argo was knocked out of orbit by Krypton's destruction. Found in suspended animation by Superman, she is adopted by the Kents in Smallville, spends years adjusting to Earth life, and eventually becomes Supergirl, initially wearing a distinctive midriff-baring outfit with a white crop top and blue skirt that reflected 1990s fashion influences.
Supergirl appeared sporadically in Superman: The Animated Series, teaming up with heroes like Batgirl in crossover episodes and assisting Superman against threats such as Darkseid. She transitioned to Justice League Unlimited (2004–2006), joining the expanded League roster and participating in missions that highlighted her growth into a more mature hero. A key subplot involved her clone Galatea, created by Project Cadmus, leading to intense confrontations that explored themes of identity and manipulation.
In the series finale episode "Far From Home" (2006), Supergirl, now in her early 20s and sporting a redesigned costume closer to the classic comics version, is transported to the 31st century. There, she aids the Legion of Super-Heroes against the Fatal Five, develops feelings for Brainiac 5, and chooses to remain in the future, finding a sense of belonging amid advanced technology reminiscent of her lost homeworld, marking her departure from the present-day DCAU.
