Cosmic Ghost Rider (Marvel Comics | Guardians of the Galaxy | Enforcer of King Thanos)

Details

Model description

Cosmic Ghost Rider is an alternate-future variant of Frank Castle, the Punisher, originating from the reality designated Earth-TRN666. Created by writer Donny Cates and artist Geoff Shaw, the character first appeared in Thanos (vol. 2) #13 (January 2018), with his full origin detailed in subsequent issues of the "Thanos Wins" storyline. In this timeline, Castle perishes during a final stand against Thanos, who has conquered much of the universe; his soul descends to Hell, where he strikes a deal with Mephisto to become a Ghost Rider, empowered as the Spirit of Vengeance to exact retribution on the Mad Titan. Returning to a desolate Earth, Castle succumbs to centuries of isolation and madness until a dying Galactus recruits him as a herald, bestowing the Power Cosmic and transforming him into the Cosmic Ghost Rider, complete with an armored form and enhanced infernal abilities.

Endowed with a fusion of supernatural and cosmic powers, Cosmic Ghost Rider possesses the traditional Ghost Rider attributes—including hellfire manipulation, the Penance Stare that compels victims to experience their sins, superhuman strength and durability, regeneration, and wielded chains forged from the bones of Cyttorak—augmented by the Power Cosmic, granting energy projection, matter manipulation, flight across space, and the capacity to create weaponry or withstand planetary-scale destruction. In his debut arc, he serves the elderly King Thanos as a loyal enforcer, employing time travel via a Time Stone fragment to aid in battles against threats like the Fallen One, only to confront existential despair and shifting allegiances amid themes of vengeance and insanity. His erratic, fourth-wall-aware personality, influenced by prolonged solitude, distinguishes him as a chaotic antihero.

Subsequent developments expanded the character's narrative through a self-titled miniseries Cosmic Ghost Rider (2018), where he time-travels to abduct infant Thanos in an attempt to raise him benevolently, inadvertently spawning paradoxical timelines and conflicts with cosmic entities. Further appearances in Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History (2019), Revenge of the Cosmic Ghost Rider (2019–2020), and crossovers such as Guardians of the Galaxy and formations like the Dark Guardians portrayed him intervening in historical events, battling figures including Hela, the Black Order, and Mephisto, while grappling with imprisonment, resurrection, and reluctant alliances. These stories underscore his tragic pursuit of purpose, blending brutal vigilantism with cosmic-scale redemption and humor derived from his fractured psyche.
