Cheetara is a key character in the 1985 animated series ThunderCats, first appearing in the premiere episode "Exodus." As a Thunderian noble based on the cheetah, she is the only adult female among the core ThunderCats team for much of the series, until the later introduction of Pumyra. Voiced by Lynne Lipton, Cheetara escapes the destruction of her home planet Thundera aboard the flagship, fighting alongside her comrades against attacking Mutants and entering suspended animation for the journey to Third Earth under Jaga's guidance.

Distinguished by her extraordinary speed—which allows her to achieve superhuman velocities for limited distances, typically up to two miles before exhaustion—and a psychic "sixth sense" that grants visions of past and future events, often at great personal cost, Cheetara wields a versatile bo staff capable of extending to various lengths and firing energy beams. Her personality is marked by bravery, determination, and a strong adherence to the Code of Thundera, with traits including pride in her unique abilities, a fondness for gold, and an affinity for water as the team's strongest swimmer. She frequently serves as a warrior and mediator, using her skills to evade dangers and protect her allies.

Throughout the series, Cheetara contributes significantly to the ThunderCats' battles against villains such as the Mutants and Mumm-Ra. Key developments include her role in Lion-O's Anointment Trials, where she tests him in a trial of speed, ultimately acknowledging his victory through determination rather than concession; episodes highlighting her sixth sense, such as improved control over her powers in later instances; and frequent use of her speed to rescue teammates from imminent threats, solidifying her position as an indispensable protector and emblem of strength within the group.
