Model description

Shiro Yoshida, known as Sunfire in the alternate reality designated Earth-295 (the Age of Apocalypse), is a Japanese mutant possessing the ability to absorb solar radiation and convert it into superheated plasma blasts, flight, and a protective fiery aura. First appearing in Astonishing X-Men #1 (March 1995), created by Scott Lobdell and Joe Madureira, this version of Sunfire emerges in a dystopian timeline where Apocalypse's conquest of North America has reshaped the world following the death of Charles Xavier. As one of Japan's premier heroes alongside his cousin Silver Samurai, Sunfire initially defends his homeland from Apocalypse's forces, embodying national pride and fierce independence characteristic of his mainstream counterpart but adapted to the harsher realities of this timeline.

In the Age of Apocalypse narrative, Sunfire joins Magneto's X-Men after a devastating battle leaves him critically injured, his body reduced to a plasma state with much of his skin burned away. Rescued and rehabilitated by the team, Magneto designs a specialized white containment suit and mask—adorned with a prominent red sun emblem—to stabilize his volatile powers and allow him to function. This transformation marks a significant development, shifting Sunfire from a solitary national protector to a committed member of the resistance, fighting alongside figures like Rogue, Sabretooth, and Blink in operations against Apocalypse's regime, including efforts to evacuate human refugees.

Sunfire's arc culminates in a heroic sacrifice during the human evacuation from North America, as depicted in the storyline's climax. Confronting the powerful Holocaust (Nemesis), one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, Sunfire dives into the villain's energy-absorbing core, triggering a massive nuclear-level explosion that destroys numerous Infinites and scorches vast areas but enables the survivors' escape. Presumed dead in this act of selflessness, Sunfire's actions underscore themes of redemption and ultimate commitment to humanity's survival, leaving a lasting legacy as a tragic yet valiant figure in the Age of Apocalypse saga.
