Model description
Angelica Jones, known as Firestar, is a mutant superhero in the Marvel Comics universe whose powers involve the generation and manipulation of microwave radiation, allowing her to produce intense heat, flames, and propelled flight. Originally created for the 1981 NBC animated series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, where she teamed with Spider-Man and Iceman, Firestar was later integrated into mainstream comic continuity. Her first in-continuity comic book appearance occurred in Uncanny X-Men #193 (May 1985), written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Romita Jr., in which she was introduced as a teenage mutant targeted for recruitment by Emma Frost, the White Queen of the Hellfire Club.
Following her debut, Firestar's backstory was further developed in a four-issue limited series titled Firestar (1986), which detailed her origin as a young woman raised by her single father and manipulated into joining the Massachusetts Academy under Emma Frost's influence. Initially trained as a member of the Hellions, she ultimately rejected the Hellfire Club's villainous agenda and destroyed part of their facilities before returning home. This paved the way for her heroic alignment, most notably as a founding member of the New Warriors alongside characters like Nova and Justice (Vance Astrovik), with whom she developed a long-term romantic relationship.
Over the subsequent decades, Firestar experienced significant character growth, including membership in the Avengers and struggles with the health consequences of her powers, such as increased cancer risk due to prolonged microwave exposure. She later joined teams like the Young Allies and, in a notable recent development, was elected to the X-Men in 2022 following a fan vote during the Hellfire Gala storyline. These arcs have established Firestar as a resilient figure navigating personal challenges while contributing to major Marvel events and team dynamics.
