Yara Flor (DC Comics | Amazons)

Details

Model description

Yara Flor is a superheroine in DC Comics, introduced as a new incarnation of Wonder Girl and, in alternate future timelines, as Wonder Woman. She first appeared in Future State: Wonder Woman #1 (January 2021), created by writer and artist Joëlle Jones. Born in Brazil to Aella, an Amazon of the hidden Esquecida tribe located in the Amazon rainforest, and a Brazilian river deity associated with the Caipora legend, Yara was orphaned young and raised in Boise, Idaho, by relatives. Upon discovering assassins sent by Olympian gods targeting her, she traveled to Brazil, connected with the Esquecida Amazons, and claimed sacred artifacts, embracing her destiny as a warrior and protector under the mantle of Wonder Girl.

Yara possesses superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, stamina, and enhanced senses derived from her Amazonian and divine heritage. She wields signature golden boleadoras—a lasso-like weapon capable of compelling truth, extending to great lengths, and binding foes with immense force—as well as winged sandals granted by Hermes that enable flight. Proficient in hand-to-hand combat, archery, swordsmanship, and acrobatics, she also commands a loyal pegasus named Jerry for aerial mobility. Her combat style reflects both traditional Amazon training and Brazilian cultural influences, making her a highly adaptable and formidable fighter against mythological and mortal threats.

Since her debut, Yara starred in the limited series Wonder Girl (2021–2022), which explored her quest to reunite scattered members of the Esquecida tribe, confront Olympian interference, and establish her identity outside Themyscira's shadow. Integrated into main continuity during the Infinite Frontier era, she has appeared in major storylines including Lazarus Planet events and Tom King's Wonder Woman (2023 onward), where she interacts with Diana Prince and other Amazonian figures while navigating themes of cultural heritage and belonging. Recognized as a key member of the extended Wonder family alongside figures like Nubia, Yara represents a modern, multicultural evolution of the Wonder Woman legacy, with ongoing roles emphasizing diplomacy, heroism in South America, and alliances with the broader DC Universe.
