Model description
Peng Deilan, also known as the Wonder-Woman of China and originally as Green Snake, is a superheroine in DC Comics, drawing inspiration from the character Xiaoqing in the classic Chinese folklore The Legend of the White Snake. Created by writer Gene Luen Yang and artist Viktor Bogdanovic, she made her first appearance in New Super-Man #1 in July 2016. In her origin, Peng Deilan is an ancient snake spirit who cultivated qi to assume human form, only to be petrified for centuries by the sorcerer Fahai. Freed in the modern era by Doctor Omen of China's Ministry of Self-Reliance, she was recruited to serve as the nation's analogue to Wonder Woman, joining the government-sponsored Justice League of China.
Peng Deilan possesses extraordinary abilities rooted in her mythical snake physiology and qi manipulation, including superhuman strength, durability, flight, regeneration, and the capacity to transform into a gigantic green serpent form. She wields specialized equipment such as a magic lasso that functions as a whip, capable of delivering electrical shocks and responding to her telepathic commands as an extension of her skin; a protective shield; and a Guandao pole weapon. As the field leader of the Justice League of China, she demonstrates exceptional martial prowess, intellectual acuity, and leadership qualities, often guiding her teammates, including Kong Kenan (the New Super-Man) and Ahn Kwang-Jo (the Bat-Man of China), while maintaining composure amid challenges.
Throughout her publications, primarily in the New Super-Man series (later retitled New Super-Man and the Justice League of China), Peng Deilan has confronted threats ranging from ancient adversaries like Fahai to modern foes, including genetically modified entities and mind-controlling forces. She has participated in crossovers with the broader DC Universe, allying with Diana Prince (the primary Wonder Woman) and appearing in titles such as Wonder Woman and The Terrifics. Her character represents a culturally resonant expansion of the Wonder Woman legacy, emphasizing themes of heroism, internal energy, and national identity within the Rebirth era and beyond.
