Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin, known as Colossus, is a longstanding mutant superhero in Marvel Comics and a core member of the X-Men. Created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum, he made his debut in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975). A gentle Russian farmer from a collective in Siberia, Rasputin manifested his mutant abilities during adolescence while protecting his sister Illyana from a runaway tractor. Recruited by Professor Charles Xavier as part of the reformed X-Men team tasked with rescuing the original members from Krakoa, the Living Island, Colossus brought his immense physical power and unwavering moral compass to the group, quickly establishing himself as a reliable and selfless ally.

Colossus possesses the ability to transform his entire body into an organic steel form, granting him superhuman strength capable of lifting over 100 tons, near-invulnerability to physical harm, and resistance to extreme temperatures and conditions, though this state limits his speed and agility. His deep bond with his sister Magik (Illyana Rasputin) was shattered by her death from the Legacy Virus, leading to a temporary defection to Magneto's Acolytes in the 1990s as he grappled with grief and disillusionment. He later sacrificed his life in Uncanny X-Men #390 (2001) to distribute the virus's cure worldwide, only to be resurrected years later. Notable arcs include a romantic relationship with Kitty Pryde, a stint as the avatar of Cyttorak (becoming the new Juggernaut in 2012–2013), membership in teams like Excalibur, and complex manipulations by his brother Mikhail during the Krakoa and Fall of X eras, underscoring his enduring themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and resilience within the X-Men narrative.
