Daisy Johnson, better known as Quake, first appeared in Secret War #2 (July 2004), created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Gabriele Dell'Otto. The illegitimate daughter of supervillain Calvin Zabo (Mister Hyde), she inherited her seismic abilities from genetic alterations caused by her father's experiments, which later activated latent Inhuman genes. Initially manifesting her powers during a moment of stress while committing theft as a runaway teenager, Johnson was recruited by Nick Fury, then-director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who recognized her potential and enrolled her as a secret agent. Under Fury's mentorship, she honed her vibration-manipulating abilities—capable of generating earthquake-like effects, destroying objects, or inducing targeted physiological disruptions—and became one of his most trusted operatives.

Johnson played a significant role in Fury's clandestine operations during the Secret War event, demonstrating her value in high-stakes espionage. Following this, she assisted the Avengers in defeating a possessed Magneto by inducing precise vibrations in his brain, during which she expressed her desire to join the team under the codename Quake. In the buildup to the Secret Invasion, Fury tasked her with assembling and leading the Secret Warriors, a team of superpowered individuals with ties to heroes and villains, to counter the Skrull threat. As Quake, she led the group through intense battles against the invaders in Manhattan and subsequently against Hydra's resurgence, forging close relationships while navigating betrayals and personal losses.
