Model description

Shadowheart, born Jenevelle Hallowleaf, is a high half-elf cleric of Shar, the goddess of darkness and loss, and serves as an origin character and recruitable companion in Baldur's Gate 3. Kidnapped as a child from her Selûnite parents during a forest rite near Baldur's Gate, she was raised and indoctrinated by the Sharran high priestess Viconia DeVir in the Cloister of Shar, with her memories repeatedly altered through rituals to secure unwavering loyalty. She first appears aboard the illithid Nautiloid during the game's prologue, functioning as a temporary companion before the vessel crashes; she can subsequently be recruited in Act One near the wreckage on the beach or in proximity to the Druid Grove, where she conceals her devotion to Shar while carrying the stolen Astral Prism as the sole survivor of a holy mission assigned by her goddess.

Throughout her journey, Shadowheart maintains a reserved and often sarcastic demeanor, marked by a mysterious hand wound that causes intermittent pain tied to the artifact she protects against the Absolute's influence. In Act One, she reveals limited fragments of her past, including a childhood fear of wolves, while navigating the tadpole infection and the party's alliances. Her personal quest, Daughter of Darkness, intensifies as she endeavors to deliver the relic to her coven, gradually exposing her internal conflict between sacred duty and emerging doubts fostered by her companions and the unfolding threat of the Absolute cult.

The character's arc culminates in pivotal developments across later acts, particularly at the Gauntlet of Shar in Act Two, where she faces a defining choice involving the Nightsong—Dame Aylin, an immortal daughter of Selûne—determining whether to fulfill her role as a potential Dark Justiciar or reject Shar's path toward redemption. Player-influenced decisions in Act Three at the House of Grief lead to full revelations about her heritage, her parents' fate, and her suppressed identity, resulting in profound transformation: she may embrace Shar's embrace with deepened devotion or liberate herself, adopting a more open and resilient persona marked by potential romance and reconciliation with her origins, embodying themes of faith, loss, and autonomous self-discovery.
