Her skin—from her collarbone to the sharp angles of her face—had turned a deep, fiery shade of crimson. A pair of dark, curling horns protruded from her scalp, cutting right through a crown of deceptively bright, sunny blonde hair. But it was her eyes that really pinned you to the wall—a pair of piercing, brilliant green pools that stared back with absolute defiance.
She was a walking contradiction, and my theory mapped her perfectly. In her old life, Maddie was the ultimate “frenemy”—a bubbly, sweet-talking blonde who masqueraded as a savior but secretly thrived on chaos. She was the whisperer in the ear, the master of subtle sabotage, and the devil on everyone’s shoulder who loved to light a match under other people’s lives just to watch them burn. The force stripped away the innocent facade. It took her inner instigator—her burning desire to tempt, manipulate, and play devil’s advocate—and gave her the literal horns and hellish skin to match the fiery, calculating predator she always was behind that sweet smile.
