Selena Deleon sits huddled in her chair, her entire body—right up to the delicate contours of her face—now covered in a soft, velvety coat of calico kitten fur. A shock of bright blonde hair remains atop her head, falling around a pair of fine, translucent whiskers that twitch anxiously at every passing shadow. It looks deceptively innocent, but my theory cuts right through the cute exterior. In her old life, Selena was a master manipulator who weaponized her own perceived helplessness. She played the fragile, dependent child to get others to fight her battles, craving constant coddling while hiding a sharp, self-serving streak underneath. The force saw right through the act and made the performance literal. It stripped away her adult agency, locking her into the body of a perpetual pet—forever demanding affection, yet utterly toothless against the harsh realities of the city she used to play like a game.
