Alison Blaire, known as Dazzler, first appeared in The Uncanny X-Men #130 (February 1980), created as part of a collaborative effort between Marvel Comics and Casablanca Records intended to launch a multimedia disco-inspired character. A mutant with the ability to transduce sound vibrations into various forms of light and energy—such as lasers, holograms, illusions, and concussive blasts—she initially pursued a career as a singer, discreetly using her powers to create spectacular light shows during performances. Early in her publication history, Dazzler wore a silver, disco-themed costume reflecting the era's aesthetic, but by the mid-1980s, she transitioned to a more functional blue bodysuit that emphasized her growing commitment to superheroics over entertainment.

Upon joining the X-Men in the late 1980s during their Australian Outback period, Dazzler retained variations of her blue costume while participating in intense conflicts, including invasions by the Reavers and battles in alien dimensions. This era marked significant personal growth, including her romantic involvement with Longshot, which led to extended adventures in the Mojoverse.
