모델 설명
Howard the Duck was created by writer Steve Gerber and artist Val Mayerik, making his debut in Adventure into Fear #19, cover-dated December 1973. Originating from Duckworld, an alternate Earth inhabited by anthropomorphic ducks, Howard is transported to the mainstream Marvel Universe (Earth-616) due to a cosmic imbalance caused by the demon Thog the Nether-Spawn. Initially appearing as a secondary character in Man-Thing stories set in the Florida Everglades, Howard emerges as a cynical, cigar-smoking antihero trapped in a world he never made, embodying existential angst and satirical commentary on human society.
The character achieved breakout success with the launch of his solo series, Howard the Duck, in January 1976, primarily written by Gerber with art by Frank Brunner and later Gene Colan. The title became a cult phenomenon for its sharp social and political satire, including Howard's fictional 1976 presidential campaign under the All-Night Party with the slogan "Get Down, America!," which reportedly inspired real write-in votes. Key developments included his partnership with human companion Beverly Switzler, mastery of the martial art Quack-Fu, battles against eccentric villains such as Doctor Bong and the Kidney Lady, and a forced redesign to wear pants following 1977 trademark concerns from The Walt Disney Company regarding similarities to Donald Duck. Creative disputes led to Gerber's departure, and the color comic concluded with issue #31 in 1979, transitioning briefly to a black-and-white magazine format.
After a critically and commercially unsuccessful 1986 live-action film adaptation, Howard appeared intermittently in comics, with significant revivals including a mature-audience MAX miniseries in 2001 written by Gerber, a 2007 limited series, and an acclaimed ongoing run from 2015 to 2016 by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones that positioned him as a private investigator. He has participated in major events such as Civil War, Secret Invasion, and Fear Itself, often allying with characters like She-Hulk, Spider-Man, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Since 2014, Howard has gained broader recognition through cameo appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, voiced by Seth Green, beginning with a post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy.
