Gustave Doré (1832-1883) was a French artist and illustrator best known for his wood engravings and illustrations of classic literature. He was a prolific artist, producing over 4,000 illustrations for books, magazines, and other publications. His most famous works include illustrations for Dante's Divine Comedy, Milton's Paradise Lost, and Cervantes' Don Quixote. He also created many iconic images of Paris, London, and other European cities. Doré's work was highly influential in the development of the modern graphic novel.
