Cable (Nathan Christopher Charles Summers) is a time-traveling mutant soldier and a prominent figure in Marvel Comics, primarily associated with the X-Men and X-Force. As an infant, Nathan Summers first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #201 (January 1986), created by Chris Claremont and Rick Leonardi, as the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey). Infected with a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse shortly after birth, he was sent to a future timeline for treatment. The adult Cable debuted in The New Mutants #87 (March 1990), created by Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld, initially as a mysterious cybernetic warrior leading the New Mutants (later reformed into X-Force). His connection to Nathan was revealed in 1991, establishing him as a time-displaced version raised in a dystopian future to combat Apocalypse.

Cable's powers include vast telekinesis and telepathy, often suppressed to contain the spreading techno-organic virus that grants him cybernetic enhancements but threatens his life. He founded the mercenary group Six Pack and led X-Force with a militant approach contrasting Professor Xavier's ideals. Major developments include confronting his clone Stryfe (revealed as his arch-nemesis), protecting the mutant messiah Hope Summers (whom he raised as an adoptive daughter), and temporary deaths/resurrections, such as during the 2008 Messiah Complex crossover and the 2018 Extermination event, where a younger version briefly replaced him.
