Cable (Nathan Christopher Charles Summers) is a time-traveling mutant soldier and a prominent figure in Marvel Comics, primarily associated with the X-Men and X-Force. As an infant, Nathan Summers first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #201 (January 1986), created by Chris Claremont and Rick Leonardi, as the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey). Infected with a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse shortly after birth, he was sent to a future timeline for treatment. The adult Cable debuted in The New Mutants #87 (March 1990), created by Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld, initially as a mysterious cybernetic warrior leading the New Mutants (later reformed into X-Force).
